Storyteller/Creative Writer

Description:
Responsibilities include creating and composing uniquely original song lyrics, poems, short stories, episodic scripts, and web content. Dynamic, intelligent, and efficient writing is a must. Ideal candidate must be able to combine humor, adventure, and playfulness into each piece of brain-ertainment without crossing over into the “cloyingly sweet/kiddie” zone. All content is targeted primarily at elementary-aged kids; however, all writing must entertain and speak to all levels of intellect in an audience of all ages. All writing needs to translate effortlessly into energetic visuals. Candidate needs the ability to alternate between working independently and collaborating with other team members. A proven track record of successfully hitting deadlines is required. Candidate must possess a powerful imagination and at least 2 years of professional experience.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Outstanding creative writing skills
• Two years of experience of professional creative writing experience
• An undergraduate degree, and/or professional certification, in English, Communications, or related field, or equivalent
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Scripting experience useful, not required
• Knowledge of children, love of music, and exposure to entertainment products and publications highly preferred
• Basic PC skills (word processing, spreadsheet, email); Word and Excel preferred

Music Education Guru

Description:

Responsibilities include developing a wide range of content that pulls from the fields of child development, music education, and entertainment. Ideal candidate must be able to strike an effective balance between all of the aforementioned areas and create exciting and intelligent materials for parents, teachers, and kids. Dynamic, clever, and efficient writing is a must. PIE brain-ertainment content includes, but is not limited to, parent guides, activity pages, and informational articles for the web site. Candidate may research questions submitted by parents, child care professionals, researchers, administrators/policy-makers and others on an assortment of childhood music topics. Candidate may also develop reference materials. Above all, the ideal candidate must be able to step beyond the boundaries of traditional music instruction and create a new and playful landscape for fun music learning. A powerful imagination is a must.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills
• Two years of experience in child care, early childhood education, or a related field
• Broad knowledge of children’s music issues and exposure to policy, research, and/or practice issues affecting children and music education.
• Master’s Degree in music, early childhood education, child development, or other human services field preferred
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced start-up environment
• Basic PC skills (word processing, spreadsheet, email); Word and Excel preferred
