Betsy Spears
Chief Imagination Officer

Betsy Spears, PIE Labsí founder and CEO, oversees business affairs, manages strategic direction and spearheads (pun intended) creative development. She also serves as Executive Producer of the Papango series and creator of several additional properties under development.

Ms. Spears previously started two successful companies, each focused on learning and teaching - a corporate training enterprise and an independent consulting firm. She has overseen projects for prestigious customers including Texas Instruments and Hewlett-Packard. Prior to her entrepreneurial life, Betsy spent several years in Houston and Los Angeles with Teach for America, which ignited in her a passion for childrenís learning. During this time, she gained a practical understanding of childrenís needs and abilities, exposure to the challenges facing educational systems, and a background in effective educational theory, practices, and research methodology. She was also a talented musical performer from a young age, singing and sharing her love for music with delighted audiences. Ms. Spears possesses a BS in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University and an MBA, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin.

Laura Chi
Imagination Architect

In her role as Imagination Architect at PIE Labs, Laura Chi oversees creative direction and assists in executive production of products like A BIG Taste of PIE and The Papango Collection. Ms. Chi has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in Communication and Psychology, with a focus on children and media. She spent nearly a decade at Microsoft Corporation, cultivating diverse careers in Recruiting, as well as in the technical product teams. While at Microsoft she was heavily involved in the corporationís efforts to develop ideas, transform those ideas into products, and take the products to market. For several years, she served as the main contact for the East Asian versions of Microsoft Access. Ms. Chi retired from Microsoft in 2000 and continues to live in the Seattle area. She has a long- term interest in communication, speech, and technology, all of which she brings to PIE Labs.  She speaks English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and French. In addition, she plays the piano and, a believer in lifelong music learning, has recently begun playing the guitar.
